1. Tell me about your homework for writing workshop.
(There is a detailed letter with directions in your child's folder stapled to either a blue, green, or yellow piece of card stock. These are not due until next Tuesday, October 10th.)
Here is an example of mine:

We have a part of our day called WIN time (What I Need Time). For the next couple of weeks, I will be introducing different activities that your child can do during this time. For right now, we are practicing whole group so that we learn the correct expectations for each activity.
Towards the end of October/beginning of November these activities will become part of a WIN Time Menu that the students are able to choose from. The expectation will be that the students are working on activities independently and I will be working with children 1:1 or in small groups at the teacher table on a variety of academic/social skills.
This week, we are focusing on different "work on writing" activities. A lot of the "work on writing" activities require that your child look at a mini word wall to complete the task. These mini word walls help the children increase their vocabulary, locate and match pictures to words, categorize objects, etc.
When they are copying down words from the mini word walls, for the most part your child will spell the word correctly. (And yes, your child might skip a letter or two or not know how to form the letters correctly yet...we will get there! :)) This is different from writing workshop--when we work on writing words during writing workshop, we will be stretching out the words and writing down the sounds we hear.
Yesterday, we learned how to write a list.
Today, we learned how to label.
In your child's folder you will find:
