1. What happened in the story Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes that made Chrysanthemum's heart hurt? (The kids in her class said mean words to her and made fun of her name.)
2. How does it feel when someone says mean words to you or you say mean words to someone else?
*Don't forget: September Scholastic Book Orders are due tomorrow!
We read the story Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes today. Every time that a child was mean or said hurtful things to Chrysanthemum we wrinkled her heart a little. By the middle of the story her heart was crinkled up into a ball. As children started being nice to her, her heart eventually opened back up and she liked herself again. Although, even though her heart was big and open again, the wrinkles were still there.
"Before you speak,
Think and be smart,
It's hard to fix
A wrinkled heart."
Before the story...
After the story...
We got outside for a little bit this afternoon to enjoy the beautiful weather and to practice using kind words and actions.
